Description

The writer was asked to send a note to State about potential issues in Gerry Smith's INFCE speech that could be problematic in press reports. So far, these points have not been reported in the press, and Smith and Pickering have been cautious in answering questions about them. The writer suggests not complaining about Smith's remarks at this point, as nothing serious has resulted. Instead, a memorandum at Tab A takes an indirect approach and provides guidance on the three INFCE judgments that appear to be the most troublesome.
