Carter Presidential Repository

Description

President Carter was president of the United States from January 20, 1977 – January 20, 1981. He beat President Ford in 1976 in a campaign that focused to some extent on nonproliferation matters.

Carter was previously a naval submariner who had experience of nuclear reactor operations.

Carter's administration focused on non-proliferation matters taking a somewhat different approach from the Ford Administration that proceeded it. A central aspect of the administration's policy was the international nuclear fuel cycle evaluation program and a belief that reprocessing should not be pursued domestically or internationally.
