Description
North Korea's Supreme People's Assembly has promulgated a law on the state policy on nuclear forces. The law states that the country opposes all forms of war, including nuclear war, and seeks to build a peaceful world with international justice. North Korea's nuclear forces are meant to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and fundamental interests, and prevent war on the Korean peninsula and in Northeast Asia. The country's nuclear posture is guaranteed by reliable, effective, and matured nuclear deterrence, defensive and responsible nuclear forces policy, and a flexible and purposeful strategy for using nuclear weapons. The law also stipulates the conditions for using nuclear weapons and the regular readiness of nuclear forces.
