The US and the USSR signed an agreement on reciprocal advance notification of major strategic exercises. The parties agree to notify each other at least 14 days in advance of one major strategic forces exercise, which includes the participation of heavy bomber aircraft, to be held during each calendar year. The notifications will be provided through the Nuclear Risk Reduction Centers established in 1987. The agreement is of unlimited duration and may be terminated by either party upon 12 months' written notice to the other party. It entered into force on January 1, 1990.
