Description

The United Nations General Assembly established a Commission to address the issues surrounding atomic energy and other related matters. The Commission, made up of representatives from each state on the Security Council, has a set of terms of reference focused on making recommendations for controlling atomic energy for peaceful purposes, eliminating atomic weapons and other weapons of mass destruction, extending the exchange of scientific information for peaceful purposes, and effective safeguards to protect against violations and evasions. The General Assembly also adopted rules of procedure concerning languages, with English and French as working languages, for better communication among member states.
